About us

What began as a single-minded obsession with footwear became Singapore's first artisan shoe care atelier. Founded in 2013, Mason & Smith was built on a belief that leather deserves more than a quick fix. It deserves craft, patience, and an understanding of how things were made to last.

That belief sent us to the workshops of Hong Kong and Japan, learning from shoemakers who still work the way shoemakers always have: by hand, with care, without shortcuts. Those apprenticeships shaped not just our technique but our philosophy, that every piece of leather carries a story and our job is to help it continue.

Today a team of artisans carries the craft forward. Dress shoes, boots, sneakers and heels all pass through the same hands, from shine and cleaning to resoles done the way the shoe was made.

Margo & Smith. In 2022 the same spirit extended naturally to leather goods. Margo & Smith was established as an atelier dedicated to the restoration of handbags, wallets, belts and leather accessories, using techniques from France and Japan.

Every consultation is tailored and personal. Clients choose colours, finishes and hardware in the consultation room, and bespoke colour matching, hand polishing and full restoration happen a few steps away. Both workshops sit side by side on the same floor, sharing the same ethos and the same hands.

Founder: John Chung, winner of the World Shoe Shine Championship 2018, trained in Hong Kong and Japan and founded both ateliers. He still works the bench.
